In order for us to best serve your needs, we screen each client through an initial consultation. Cost is $75.00-$150.00. If you decided to proceed, that cost will be credited to whichever package you choose. To begin, follow the steps below.

For your initial consultation, please send your payment ($75 for D’Ann and Leslie, $150 for Mary) through PayPal. Use this email address: maryedemuth [at] sbcglobal [dot] net. You may use your PayPal account or use any major credit card to pay. Once PayPal has confirmed your payment, please send the first five pages of the work you’d like us to consider for possible mentoring using the email address above. Please use Times New Roman, size 12 font. Our suggestion:
For nonfiction: Send the first five pages of your proposal (usually single spaced). For fiction: Send the first five double-spaced pages of your book. If you’d like mentoring for a specific writing issue (queries, proposals, a portion of a novel that’s bothering you, etc.), please send five double-spaced pages of what you’re wrestling with.
This will give us a good feel for your style, strengths, weaknesses, needs, and whether or not we’ll be a good fit for mentoring you to the next stage.
We’ll provide an email follow up after we've read through your submission, along with a critique of the pages you’ve sent using track changes in Microsoft Word. Please understand that it’s our desire to help you become a better writer. Therefore, our comments are written in a spirit of friendship, meant to tell the truth about your piece. It’s hard to convey tone in an email; if possible, try to picture us sipping a hot drink while I gently, but firmly offer feedback. Or you can grab my picture from the website, enlarge it, and throw darts!
Please note: we do not critique the following types of projects:
- Children’s fiction
- Picture books
- Anything pornographic
- Fantasy and science fiction
